Quality Academics, Athletics, and Arts

Rome City Schools Virtual Learning Academy is staffed by professional educators that are highly qualified in their content fields and who hold online-teaching endorsements.  Teachers are available to serve students in gifted, special education, and English as a Second Language.  Virtual Learning Academy teachers present the state curriculum standards and follow the curriculum maps established by Rome City Schools.

The educational needs of every family are unique and every family deserves access to quality education, even within their own home.  With the Virtual Learning Academy your student can have access - right in your own home -  to the high quality academics, athletics, and arts for which Rome City Schools is known.  In fact, your student can learn from anywhere with access to the internet.

Live Instruction Daily

Instruction in the VLA is live, daily instruction!  Teachers engage with students in the virtual classroom in the same ways teachers do in a traditional classroom.  Teachers and students build meaningful relationships in the virtual classroom. Through relationships and live instruction, the VLA is bridging the gap between quality academics and virtual learning.

Students join the virtual classroom each morning and spend their day with teachers and classmates.  Students are presented lessons, have opportunities to practice with peers, create and share projects, and work one-on-one with teachers for personalized instruction. Students experience art, music, and PE during activity.

Testing does take place onsite, and we have designated areas that are safely distanced for test-taking days. Students must test in-person in accordance with the bylaws of the Georgia State Board of Education.

Celebrating Students with PBIS

The Virtual Learning Academy is a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports School. Through PBIS, students are taught behavioral and academic expectations. Students are expected to Be Rome - Be Respectful, Be an Owner, Be Mindful, and Be Engaged. When students exhibit these characteristics, they earn HERO points. HERO points are used to purchase classroom and schoolwide incentives and celebrations. Incentives include participation in virtual scavenger hunts, virtual gaming challenges, and virtual talent shows. Students that meet academic expectations are also celebrated through Rome Reads Wolf of the Month, and the Principal's Podium.
